General description of the accommodation Hidden in the Corbières, a beautiful wine region in the department of Aude in Languedoc-Roussillon, lie the 2 holiday homes Gîtes Villerouge. The estate consists of 2 typical South French private houses, namely a cottage for 4-5 persons and next to it a larger house for 8-10/12 persons. The 2 houses naturally enjoy sufficient privacy, each house is equipped with its own driveway with enclosed parking space(s), separate entrance and its own sun-facing terrace. In addition, there is also an outdoor kitchen provided, which can also be split into 2 parts or used as 1 whole. An electric barbecue is provided. The swimming pool, with sun loungers, is of course sun-facing and is located between the 2 houses, and together with the outdoor kitchen, this can lead to very pleasant and fun afternoons and evenings, so one lovely spot after another to read a book or enjoy a glass of wine. Of course, the entire property, namely the 2 houses, can also be rented, this for larger groups (and possibly longer periods). Think of families, friends, but also cyclists, motorcyclists, hikers, surfers,.... Description of Gîte "Le Cers" (largest house) Holiday home no. 1 is a large, but of course cosy private house for 4-6-8-10 persons. The house is equipped with electric heating and a wood stove (for the colder months), 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen (equipped with all necessary appliances, cutlery, crockery, pots & pans,...) and dining room + lounge. The patio, located between the master bedroom and living room, is by the way a very nice place to spend time. A large sunny terrace invites you to spend many hours there during the warm months, with a glass of Corbières wine. It is pure enjoyment of a beautiful region in a beautiful home. Description of Gîte "Cathare" (smallest house) Holiday home no. 2 is a tasteful private house for 4-5 persons. The house is equipped with air conditioning, which keeps it cool in the summer. In the colder months the house is heated by electric heating elements and firewood is provided for you by the wood stove in the living area. The house is situated slightly higher in relation to the garden and is accessed by means of a small outdoor staircase. Upon entering you arrive in an open dining and living area with a completely newly installed kitchen (installed in May 2023) equipped with all amenities (including: dishwasher, oven, fridge, freezer, coffee machine, toaster, crockery, cutlery, pots & pans,...) Then 3 small steps lead you to the 2 spacious double bedrooms, where an extra single bed can be provided in the first room and where in the second bedroom a baby cot can be perfectly added. The beds have luxury bed linen and you receive nice thick towels for the bathroom. The bathroom has a shower and sink with a separate toilet next to it. Outdoor living: Through the front door you have direct access to the south-facing private terrace with dining and lounge furniture. An electric barbecue is available here if needed (for fire safety reasons, open fires are not permitted). Via another staircase you also have access to the covered terrace/outdoor kitchen which eventually leads to the swimming pool. The swimming pool, only to be shared with the other gîte, has an area of 3.5x7.5m and is open from May to October. Rates SEASONS & RATES: • High season: July and August • Mid-season: June, September and all Belgian school holidays • Low season: October to May with the exception of Belgian school holidays GÎTE 1 (largest house): • High season: 2300 euros/week • Mid-season: 1900 euros/week • Low season: 1500 euros/week GÎTE 2 (smallest house): • High season: 1500 euros/week • Mid-season: 1100 euros/week • Low season: 900 euros/week Both in high and mid-season a minimum stay of 7 nights applies. In low season a stay of less than 1 week is negotiable. For a stay of 2 weeks or more, special rates apply. Information about the region SURROUNDINGS: A unique place for people looking for a 'hideaway', who love peace, simplicity and nature. Gîtes Villerouge is located in the department of Aude in Languedoc, in the hamlet of Villerouge la Crémade in the heart of the Corbières wine region. Mass tourism has not yet discovered this part of South France and yet you are only half an hour's drive away from the medieval gem Carcassonne and the Mediterranean Sea with its charming harbours and famous oyster farms. The village of Fabrezan, Saint-André de Rocquelogne and Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, all just 5 minutes by car, are typical French villages where you can get your croissant in the morning at the local bakery and in the evening stroll around the petanque square with the rest of the inhabitants. You experience here a hospitable, Mediterranean lifestyle where you can enjoy plenty of honest regional cuisine and local wines. In addition, the surroundings lend themselves well to taking beautiful walks, cycling trips or scenic drives. You will also find idyllic little rivers to swim in and have an abundance of choice of wine estates where they welcome you with open arms for a tasting. Fun tips • Soak up the atmosphere at a typical French market in Lézignan-des-Corbières, every Wednesday morning • Discover the beautiful city of Narbonne and shop at the covered market in 'Les Halles' • A day at the beach in Narbonne Plage or Port-la-Nouvelle • Stroll along the pleasure boats in the harbour of Gruissan and enjoy fish or shellfish in the evening by the waterway • Visit the oyster farms in Port Leucate and of course finish with a lovely tasting • Go souvenir hunting in the old part of Gruissan, with several days and/or evenings a week in season a nice little market • Visit the beautiful town of Carcassonne and wander through the medieval streets • A trip to the artist village of Lagrasse, where the weekly market also takes place on Saturday • Swimming and cooling off at one of the natural swimming spots in the nearby area (some with a swimming beach and lifeguard): Ribaute, Lagrasse, St-Laurent-de-laCabrerisse • A trip to 'Les Salins de Gruissan', the pink salt lakes with a nice souvenir shop and an excellent restaurant in a unique setting with a view of the salt lakes • Explore one of the many cycling and hiking routes • Join a wine tasting at one of the many wine producers in the region • Spot lions, rhinoceroses, monkeys and many more animals in Sigean's African park • Take a boat trip on the Canal du Midi, along the many plane trees and cypresses, old bridges and locks • Hiking and picnicking in natural park Le Fenouillèdes with a stop at the hermitage Saint-Antoine against the rock wall of the Gorges de Galamus • Visit the many castles and Cathar castles with highlights including the abbey of Fontfroide and the castle of Peyrepertuse Additional information • children are warmly welcome • small pets are welcome on request • swimming pool is open from May to October • The holiday home is available from 4 p.m. on the day of arrival and on the day of departure we ask you to vacate the holiday home by latest 10 a.m. INCLUDED IN THE RENTAL PRICE: • gas / water / electricity • air conditioning or electric heating depending on the season • firewood for the wood stove in winter • bathroom, bed and kitchen linen (except towels for the pool) • made-up beds • free WiFi internet connection • enclosed private parking space • use of the private swimming pool (only to be shared with the other gîte) • starter package: toilet paper, dish soap, dish cloth, sponge • use of shared laundry room with washing machine (free of charge) • garden and pool maintenance • change of linen for stays longer than one week • on request the owners can provide a baby cot and high chair for you (no extra charge) • advice and/or reservation of restaurants, excursions, etc. • final cleaning (with the exception of the kitchenette, dishes, mobile kitchen unit/BBQ outside, rubbish) OPTIONAL/PAID SERVICES: The following services are also offered upon request and subject to payment. For more information and rates, please feel free to contact us. • Possibility to do shopping before arrival (high season only) ... • Extra linen during your stay BOOKING AND PAYMENT TERMS: Upon reservation, a deposit of 50% of the reservation amount is required, to be paid within 7 days of receiving your booking confirmation. The remainder must be paid at the latest 6 weeks before the start of your stay. For bookings within 6 weeks, the total reservation amount must be paid immediately. In case of cancellation more than 6 weeks before the start of your stay, 50% of the deposit will be refunded. For cancellation within 6 weeks, no refund will be given. DEPOSIT: We ask for a deposit which you must pay on site, the amount is 300 euros and we request payment in cash. If you leave the property in good condition you will receive the deposit in cash upon departure.
