Quinta da Tapada

The cottage is located in Casal de São João (Coja) in the interior of Portugal, between Porto (170km) and Lisbon (270km). The nearest major city is Coimbra (65km). Closer by you'll find somewhat larger municipalities such as Arganil (18km) and Tábua (23km). The Atlantic coast with beautiful sandy beaches and pleasant seaside towns is roughly 100 km from the holiday home. The cottage is situated at the foot of 2 mountain ranges: Serra do Açor and Serra da Estrela. These are natural areas with plenty of forests, rivers and Portugal's highest peaks. The house is built on a rocky slope of a valley. The property covers an area of 11200 m². Below runs a small river which also forms the boundary of the property. From the terrace you have a view over the small valley with a few meadows and fields. The house is a traditional Portuguese dwelling that was completely renovated in 2004 and equipped with all comforts. Thanks to the thick slate-stone walls, the house stays cool in summer and warm in winter. Next to the hall there is a spacious bathroom and 2 bedrooms. One room is equipped with a double bed, the other has 2 bunk beds. Accommodation for 6 people then. There is a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, freezer, gas stove, combination oven, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. In the living room there is a lounge, dining table, TV and a music system. There is a reliable WIFI connection. In the winter months you can light the built-in wood stove. From the living room you have direct access to a spacious terrace. Below is an old water reservoir converted into a swimming pool. In the region there are many opportunities for walking, cycling or touring by car or moto. Those seeking refreshment can find various villages along the Alva river which have landscaped beaches and bathing areas. As an excursion, the waterfalls and nature park of Fraga da Pena (7 km) are certainly worth recommending. Furthermore, there are various traditional villages and towns that are definitely worth visiting. The cities of Porto and Coimbra are accessible for a day trip. The coast is around 100 kilometres away.
